About Us

The Lindbergh School District Foundation (LSDF) is an independent, non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the Lindbergh Schools’ commitment to excellence in all facets of education.

Specifically, the mission of the Lindbergh School District Foundation is to:

  • Endow and administer funds that award scholarships to Lindbergh High School students.
  • Support programs and projects in the Lindbergh Schools that enhance the educational experience for students.
  • Strengthen the bond between the Lindbergh Schools, their alumni and the Lindbergh community.

HISTORY

The Foundation was founded in 1998 by a group of Lindbergh parents who shared a strong commitment to education, the Lindbergh School District and especially to the students of the Lindbergh Schools.  They had the foresight to envision a time when traditional sources of funding for public education would no longer be adequate to meet increasingly more complex educational challenges.  The founding board realized that significant additional sources of funding would be needed to maintain the high level of excellence that had long been a trademark of the Lindbergh School District. They made the commitment then to lead the effort raise those additional funds.

SCHOLARSHIPS

The first efforts of LSDF were directed toward funding college scholarships for Lindbergh High School seniors. Over the years, the Scholarship Program of the Foundation has expanded to include the financial management and administration of nine scholarships established in the name of Lindbergh administrators, teachers, coaches or alumni, in additional to the original Foundation General Scholarship.

The Foundation General Scholarship is funded through the purchase of engraved bricks in the LHS Spirit Garden, through the clothing collection boxes located on the LHS and Sperreng campuses, through payroll deductions from the Lindbergh staff, and through direct donations from supporters.

TEACHER GRANTS

The Spirit of Lindbergh Teacher Grant program was established to encourage and support the efforts of district teachers who propose innovative projects to engage their students with the standard curriculum in more exciting ways.

In the early years of the Foundation, grants of up to $250 each were given to teachers whose proposed projects were judged the best from among the grant applications submitted.  After a hiatus of a few years, the Spirit of Lindbergh Teacher Grant Program was reinvigorated in 2008. Updates include:

  • Teacher Grant Awards Breakfast & Prize Parade in January each year for members of the spirit of Lindbergh Society.
  • Creation and administration of the entire Teacher Grant process, including the application and selection process by the Teacher of the Year Committee composed of those teachers in the Lindbergh District who have been selected by their peers at Teacher of the Year.
  • New fundraising initiatives, including Thank-A-Teacher and direct appeals.
